BETRAYAL IN THE SENATE!
SEN. REID BYPASSES COMMITTEES AND PUBLIC
TO GREASE SKIDS FOR AMNESTY BILL

Majority Leader Harry Reid is betraying the American people. Yesterday, he reintroduced the Illegal Alien Amnesty Bill that passed the Senate last year. This year's version is numbered S.1348.

Sen. Reid is threatening to bring last year's Bill - now numbered S. 1348 -- to a vote ANY DAY NOW, POSSIBLY AS EARLY AS WEDNESDAY, MAY 16TH. By not putting the Bill through committee, Reid has avoided public scrutiny, public input, and much public outcry.

Of course, that Senate Bill is a disaster, legalizing 25 million plus illegals, giving them AND THEIR FAMILIES a path to citizenship, and placing extraordinary burdens on American taxpayers and the environment.

Using the threat to bring S. 1348 to a vote any day now, Sen. Reid is encouraging the Open Borders Senators and White House time to negotiate behind closed doors on a compromise version of this Bill. Their goal is to come up with a version of the Bill that will receive enough votes (60) to pass a motion for Cloture.

If the open-borders crowd come up with a Bill guaranteed to get 60-vote support, they will bring it to Reid, who will quickly bring it to the Senate floor, replace the text of the old Bill renumbered as S. 1348 with this new language, and the Senate will vote on it, WITHOUT THE AMERICAN PUBLIC EVER SEEING THE CONTENTS OF THIS BILL.

Although we cannot be sure of its content, the word from Senate Staffers and other Balance sources is that the new language for the Bill is very close to that of the White House proposal circulated at the end of March, which would include a de facto amnesty for illegals and a path to citizenship. Coupled with the Flake-Gutierrez Bill in the House, which has already had Committee Hearings and is a real threat to pass, these Bills could soon turn into legislation that the President would be all too pleased to sign, shafting his own constituents but fulfilling his pledge to El Presidente Fox. The result would end our country as we have known it.
